Some Easily Derivable Integer Sequences

We propose and discuss several simple ways of obtaining new enumerative sequences from existing ones. For instance, the number of graphs considered up to the action of an involutory transformation is expressible as the semi-sum of the total number of such graphs and the number of graphs invariant under the involution. Another, less familiar idea concerns evenand odd-edged graphs: the difference...

Computation of Some Integer Sequences in Maple

We consider some integer sequences connected with combinatorial applications. Specifically, we consider Stirling partition and cycle numbers, associated Stirling partition and cycle numbers, and Eulerian numbers of the first and second kinds. We consider their evaluation in different contexts. One context is the calculation of a single value based on single input arguments. A more common contex...

Some fascinating series and their sums

In this paper we present some interesting results involving summation of series in particular trigonometric ones. We failed to locate these results in existing literature or in the web like MathWorld (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/) nor could we derive them using software for analytical computation like Maple. The identities are beautiful and involve finite series.

Generalized Nonaveraging Integer Sequences

Let the sequence Sm of nonnegative integers be generated by the following conditions. Set the first term a0 = 0, and for all k ≥ 0, let ak+1 be the least integer greater than ak such that no element of {a0, . . . , ak+1} is the average of m − 1 distinct other elements. Szekeres gave a closed-form description of S3 in 1936, and Layman provided a similar description for S4 in 1999. We first find ...

My Favorite Integer Sequences

This paper gives a brief description of the author’s database of integer sequences, now over 35 years old, together with a selection of a few of the most interesting sequences in the table. Many unsolved problems are mentioned. This paper was published (in a somewhat different form) in Sequences and their Applications (Proceedings of SETA ’98), C. Ding, T. Helleseth and H. Niederreiter (editors...
